The Club History
During 1886, there was a published monthly paper called the ‘Scots Angler’. During the latter months of that year, a letter to the paper suggested that it might be good for the angling community in Scotland for social clubs to be formed in the more populous centres. During 1898, a number of stalwart anglers decided to form the Scottish Trout Anglers’ Association and in the following year the Edinburgh Branch of the Association was formed. On 16th November 1899 its first meeting was held. This was the first meeting of the Trout Anglers’ Club, Edinburgh. The Club’s Rooms were originally situated in Rutland Street,

Edinburgh, the transfer to the premises at 29 Dundas Street, Edinburgh being made during 1966.Our premises include bar and lounge facilities and a games room with a full size snooker table. A smaller room, used mainly by other fishing clubs, is available for meetings.
This year, the Club has organised outings to Loch Leven, The Lake of Menteith, the Carron Valley Reservoir and the Butterstone Reservoir. Members can take part if they wish in the Club’s annual angling competition, for which a number of trophies are awarded, for example for heaviest day and evening baskets and the heaviest fish taken (The heaviest trout taken last year was a 5lb 8oz Brown Trout, caught during the August competition outing to Loch Leven). Members also represent the Club in national and inter-city competitions.A number of our Members have been awarded Scottish Caps. From time to time, in particular during the winter months, the Club arranges social evenings and occasional talks by guest speakers on topics relevant to our sport. There are demonstrations of fly-tying during the winter months. Our Annual Dinner is held in February each year.
